Project Summary

Location: Meriden, CT
Installation Type: Rooftop Mounted Solar System
System Size: 1.32 MW DC
System Production: 1,605,653 kWh

Project Overview

Medline is the largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of medical and surgical supplies in the world. With offices in 20 countries, Medline provides healthcare educational resources and offers over 350,000 medical products and clinical solutions to hospitals, healthcare providers and retailers, physician offices, and other medical care facilities.

During May of 2020, Medline was operating in overdrive due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This made scheduling the shutdown for the switchgear installation quite a challenge. However, despite their frenzied production schedule, Medline appreciated the positive impact this project would have on the environment and accommodated the shutdown of their Meriden, Connecticut, plant on a Sunday morning.

System Specifications

Medline’s vast solar array boasts 3,282 solar modules, for a total system size of 1.32 MW DC. It has nine SolarEdge 100k and three SolarEdge 33.3k inverters, as well as two revenue-grade meters: one for diagnostics and one for Eversource to track ZRECs.

In addition to offsetting Medline’s utilities, the shift to solar power dramatically reduced their carbon footprint. With a peak power of 1,605,653 kWh a year, the system generates enough energy to power over 145 homes and prevents 1,245 metric tons of carbon, the amount created by 1,244,162 lbs of burning coal, from being released into the environment. The environmental impact is equal to that of growing 18,671 acres of US forest for 10 years.
